# Associate sync external resources to named resources 

The external project and task synchronisation process will create **External Resources** e.g. *John Doe (Jira)* for each team member defined in the synchronised external projects.  Multiple external resources can be associated to a single named resource to ensure that all the work is tracked, and that resource capacity and demand is managed across all active projects in the organisation.   
  
  
To associate external resources to named resources:  
 

1.  Ensure that you are in the **Resources** area and click **Resources** in the Resources section.  
      
     
2.  Apply a filter using the **Resource Type** column heading to display **External** resources only  
      
     
3.  Select the appropriate external resource from the list by clicking on the resource name.  
      
     
4.  In the **Related Resource** people picker field, search for and select the appropriate named resource in the platform.  
      
     
5.  Finally, click the **Save and Clos**e button from the ribbon to keep the changes applied to the external resource record  
      
     
6.  Select the **Project Schedule** source and **External Project** (if appropriate)  
      
     
7.  Repeat this process until all external resources created by task synchronisation process are associated with the appropriate named resources to ensure effective enterprise resource capacity management.
