# Define a new portfolio and program

Capture the high-level details for your portfolio or program. For Portfolios, this aligns with the **Charter**, and for Programs, this aligns with a **Business Case**. They are used throughout Portfolios in views and reports.

To document charter and business case:

**Capture the charter/business case**

1. Ensure you are in the **Portfolios** area and click **Portfolios (or Programs)** in the **Leadership** section.

2. Click **\+ New** from the command bar.

3. Complete the **Portfolio (or Program) pane** with as much information as you have now.

4. The **Portfolio (or Program) Name** field is mandatory.

5. Similarly, complete the **Charter (or Business Case) pane** with the information currently available.

6. Click **Save (or Save & Close)** to create the Portfolio (Program).

**Build the Team**

1. Select P**ortfolios (or Programs)** from the site map to display the list of **Active Portfolios (or Active Programs).**

2. Adjust the view as needed to ensure the one you are looking for is displayed.

3. Select the Portfolio (or Program) to be updated.

4. Select the header.

5. Search for and select the **Sponsor.**

6. Click **Group Members.**

7. Search for and add members to the Microsoft 365 group.

8. Click **Create.**

9. Click **Save & Close** to finish.

10. Click **Group Members.**
