# Identify portfolio and program stakeholders

While identifying stakeholders is optional, we recommend that you work with the sponsor to identify all the key stakeholders for the portfolio or program and their communications requirements to ensure effective stakeholder management.  
  
To identify stakeholders:

1.  Ensure you have the appropriate portfolio (or program) open.   
     
2.  Click the **Stakeholders** tab.  
     
3.  Click **+New Stakeholder.**  
     
4.  Complete the **New Stakeholder** form.  
     
5.  Click **Save & Close** to finish.
