Task Management Views: Board and Timeline
Altus provides multiple ways to view and manage project tasks, depending on how you prefer to work and the level of control required.
The two main task views are:
- Board view (visual and flexible)
- Timeline view (schedule and dependency-based)
Board View (Visual Management)
Best for:
- Organising and grouping work visually
- Tracking progress across tasks
- Drag-and-drop task updates
- Agile, Kanban, or hybrid delivery
Use Board view when you want to:
- Group tasks into buckets (e.g. To Do, In Progress, Done)
- Manage work in a similar way to Microsoft Planner
- Quickly reprioritise or reorganise tasks
👉 Board view is ideal for day-to-day task management and team visibility
Timeline View (Schedule Management)
Best for:
- Managing timelines and dependencies
- Understanding task sequencing
- Planning project delivery
Use Timeline view when you want to:
- View task durations across time
- Manage start and end dates
- Track dependencies between tasks
- Understand the overall delivery schedule
👉 Timeline view is ideal for planning, scheduling, and delivery control
How to Choose the Right View
If you want to… | Use this view |
|---|---|
Organise and track work visually | Board |
Manage schedule and dependencies | Timeline |
Working Across Views
Important:
Both views use the same underlying task data.
This means:
- Changes made in one view are reflected in the other
- You can switch between views at any time
- You can use each view depending on the task at hand
Tips
- Use Board view for daily team collaboration
- Use Timeline view for planning and control
- Switch between views frequently to get different perspectives
- Align your usage with your delivery approach (Agile, Kanban, or traditional)
