Set up and maintain project types

Project Types allow organisations to define structured templates for project creation, including standardised fields, governance controls, and reporting configurations.

Maintaining project types ensures consistency across projects and alignment with organisational processes.


Important: Permissions Required

This task is available to users with administrative access to Settings in Altus.

  • If you do not see the required options, you may not have sufficient permissions
  • Contact your system administrator to request access or support

Accessing Project Types

  1. Navigate to Settings from the change area picker.
  2. Locate the Project Configuration section
  3. Select Project Types

This area displays all existing project types configured in the system.


Creating a New Project Type

To create a new project type:

  1. Select New Project Type
  2. Enter the required details:
    • Name – Clearly identify the project type
    • Description – (Optional) Provide context for usage
  3. Configure tab visibility using the available toggle switches
  4. Assign or validate the workflow (project lifecycle)
  5. Select Save

Updating an Existing Project Type

To update a project type:

  1. Locate and select the Project Type from the list
  2. Update the required configuration:

Tabs Visibility

  • Use the toggle switches to control which tabs are visible on the project record
  • Enable only the tabs required for the project type
  • This supports a streamlined user experience aligned with governance requirements

Workflow (Lifecycle)

  • Navigate to the Workflow tab
  • Confirm the correct project lifecycle is assigned
  • Ensure the lifecycle aligns with how projects should progress (e.g. stages, approvals, phases)
  1. Select Save or Save & Close

When maintaining project types:

  • Align tab visibility with user roles and governance needs
  • Ensure workflows reflect the intended lifecycle and approval process
  • Avoid exposing unnecessary fields or tabs to end users
  • Maintain consistency across similar project types
